charyncanyon.net is a visitor guide to Charyn Canyon and the Valley of Castles in Almaty Region, Kazakhstan. It is not operated by, and does not speak for, Charyn State National Nature Park, Kolsai Kolderi State National Nature Park or any state body, and it does not sell tickets, tours or accommodation.
Information accuracy
We check fees, distances, rules and visitor information against the parks’ and the government’s published information and date them on each page. Fees are set in multiples of the monthly calculation index, which changes every year, and rules and access can change without notice. Confirm with the park before you travel, and follow the instructions of park staff on site.
Your safety
The canyon includes cliffs, steep stairs, loose ground, a river and summer heat, and the lakes lie in high mountains near a state border. You are responsible for judging whether a walk suits your fitness, for carrying enough water, and for following the rules of the protected areas and the instructions of park staff. Nothing on this website is safety advice from the parks or from any authority.
